Bola murukku or Bola Bite is a very famous spicy, crunchy snack around the people in Sri Lanka and India. Mostly people used to eat these bola murukku snacks when they watch movies, television programs on relaxing weekends. Especially children like to eat these bola murukku.
But when we buy these snacks from shops sometimes they are not as tasty as they look. Sometimes it is not crispy. And some use cheap ingredients to gain more profit when making the product. So we have to think twice before buying snacks from shops especially if we give it to small children.
But you can make some at home and store in an air-tight container for later use. This recipe will guide you to make some spicy crunchy bola murukku at your own kitchen quickly. Try this simple recipe this weekend and enjoy the taste with your family.

Special notes

  • You can use butter or vegatable oil instead of margarine.
  • You can use rice flour (fried in low heat for around 15 minutes) instead of string hopper flour.

Ingredients

To make the batter
 250 g String hopper flour
 1 tbsp Margarine
 1 ½ tsp Chili poweder
 1 tsp Salt
 250 ml Water
To sprinkle
 1 ½ tsp Chili powder
 1 tsp Salt
 Coconut oil

Directions

Mix chili powder, salt, and string hopper powder together, add melted margarine and mix well.

Mix all the ingredients well gradually adding water.

Knead the dough, cover using a plastic wrap and leave for around one hour.

Spread some coconut oil into your palm and make small balls from the dough.
